What the Three-Way Diverter Valve Does
The three-way diverter valve directs hot primary water either to the heating circuit or to the hot-water plate exchanger. When it sticks you get heat but no hot water, hot water but no heat, or radiators warming when you run a tap.
On a hot-water demand the valve motor diverts flow to the DHW exchanger; when heating is called it returns flow to the radiators, sharing the single heat source between the two jobs.
