What the Heat Exchanger Does

The primary heat exchanger is the heart of your boiler, transferring heat from the burner flame and combustion gases into your heating water. In condensing boilers it is usually stainless steel or aluminium; in cast-iron and conventional boilers it is the boiler block itself. A cracked, blocked, or corroded heat exchanger is one of the most serious boiler faults — it can cause flue-gas leakage, internal leaks, and loss of efficiency.

As the burner fires, hot combustion gas passes over the heat exchanger surfaces while system water flows through the other side, absorbing the heat. Condensing models extract extra energy by cooling the gases until water vapour condenses, which is why they reach 90%+ efficiency.

We supply and fit the heat exchanger as part of a complete boiler repair or new installation, and inspect it during annual maintenance for homes across Greater Vancouver.
