What the Transformer Does
The transformer steps line voltage down to the low voltage the control board, thermostat, zone valves and gas valve need. A failed transformer leaves the boiler dead or the controls unpowered.
It converts 120V line power to the 24V (or other) control voltage that runs the thermostat circuit, valves and board logic.
